From his studio in Medellín, Colombia, Chris Wolston — who’s also based in New York City — creates artisanal designs in wood, wicker, metal, and ceramic that often feature fantastical takes on plants, animals, and body parts. For Petra, he’s distilled some of those motifs into a sophisticated collection of 14 pulls, knobs, and handles in bronze or aluminum, some with simple forms and some that he’s cast in the shape of spiders, snakes, flowers, and more. This particular creation draws inspiration from a tropical plant native to Latin America and the Pacific islands, and each weighs over 2 pounds. Its name, Heliconia, pays homage to Mount Helicon in Greece, a hallowed site where the Muses convened.
